arrow is blinking any thoughts? 850 1995

I know the arrow is for my winter switch or if it is in a lower gear. I got into my car this morning to discover it blinking while I drove. Switching gears and playing with the winter button did nothing. I also tried the economy/sport button but it made no difference to the light blinking. I think the green light on the economy switch is also blinking. Can anyone tell me what to check and what went wrong.

I am deciding whether or not it is worth cancelling a day of work to take to the dealer 3 hrs away or get a local mech to lok at it.
