Very Weak Crank, not the battery 850 1997

Getting a bit frustrated as there is something going on almost every week with this car. Big body repairs from hit & run, & small junk. Not a lemon, but still maybe a curse.
Three days ago, I jumped in & turned the key. It barely cranked at all, but turned over eventually. I thought oh great my battery is 2-3 months old & something got left on again & it's drained. I drove a few minutes & tried it again, & it was good. After 20 min of sitting: low crank again (& the radio wants its code)
I drove to a shop & the guy hooked up a meter, & said battery looks good, & it's charging good. I went on my 90 mile trip anyway & disconnected the battery to save it. The results were mixed. Good start one time, bad start the next. I got back home OK & going to a good shop tomorrow. What to look for? A short draining the battery? A bad wire or dirty contact to the starter motor? A bad starter motor? (122K) Hit the solonoid with a hammer?
Please advise, greatly appreciated.
I want to try prevent this kind of stuff, & do all the proper maint.
