Electrical system going haywire 850 1995

Such electrical problems for a car with low mileage is NOT very common.

However, if you let it sit for a while maybe you may have some corrision. Is the car parked outside on in a garage. Do you have mice in your area that could get into the car and start chewing on wires. I have seen that happen many times before!!!! If you drive it only on a weekend and leave the car parked outside, the outside elements can be your worst enemy as well.....

I would suggest taking it to a Volvo dealer, i am sure "your" mechanic is great but is he Volvo certified. Replacing a radio for something like an electric problem seems more like a shot in the dark.

You pay for an hour or two of estimates on what can be wrong. Atleast the Volvo dealer can make more of an educated guess.

Here is what i would check.

1: Battery is in working order. Remember, if this is an orginal battery it maybe time to replace the battery. If you take it to Sears/Firestone or any large mechanic shop that replaces batteries they can run an electrical check on your wagon. This way you know if your alternator is in working order. Make sure your alternator is charging your battery properly.

2: Check for corrosion on the battery terminals, AND the fuse box in the engine compartment.

3: Take a flash light and see if you can find an loose or broken electrical wire.

Also, have you noticed any other electrical problems other than the time not staying accurate. Like lights seeming weak or not turning on.

I have NEVER had any problems with leaving the park lights on, on either of my Volvos. I think the mechanic is reaching for ideas and you need a second opinion.

Remember, it is your money not his...................
