Thumping noise coming from left rear brake V70-XC70 1998

I replaced the pads on my '98 V70 AWD and now have a thumping noise from the left rear brake. I've checked the pads and tire and see nothing wrong. I can only hear the noise when the brakes are applied. I also see the the lower 1/4" of the rotor isn't showing the wear marks the rest of the rotor is from the new pads. Any ideas?
