Please Help. Are the CVT auto boxes any good because I am thinking of buying one 400

I have found a car i like but it has a cvt gearbox. The car is a 1995 440se and has had to have a replcement box after only 20000 miles. Do these boxes have reliability problems. also the seller said that it is normal for this car to idle at 1000rpm becase of the gearbox is this right. If you can help it will be much appeciated thank you. Joe.
