car died on highway, could it be from broken intercooler hose? 850

Went into limp mode at 70mph. There was some smoke (or steam), The engine sounds ok and it runs. I can shift gears and the car will move (got on and off the tow truck). I was sure it was tranny/timebelt or blown engine. But this moring in the light I could see that the intercooler hose come apart at the middle joint.

Could that cause my problem or was it off from before. The car sounds horrible and is the dealers parking lot.

Is my volvo dead?
