Tire tread level messes up AWD system? V70-XC70

I saw a message at this or a different board that claimed if you have tires with varying tread amounts (e.g., you replace a leaking tire with a new one but don't replace the others) your AWD system will screw up. This seems ridiculous but I wanted to see if anybody else had heard this.
