850 automatic trans. PNP switch redux 850 1995

When my Gear Position Sensor (PNP)was replaced, I took apart the old one and saw the same things you mentioned. Technically speaking it's an electromachanical part that mimicks the gear selector as attached by a cable. It certainly seems to be a crude way to tell the ECM what gear has been selected by the driver. I noticed the large amount of grease as well...cleaning the contacts with amery paper would probably fix the no-contact which is essentially the root of the problem...
