1998 S70 Interior Leather on Door Panel Separating

I am curious as to whether anyone else has had this similar problem with their 1998 S70 Volvo...the leather is coming unglued on the door panel, where the handle to close the door is located. If you have had this problem, is it self repairable by purchasing the $69 kits from Volvo, or is it going to cost $500 to repair? Volvo has told me that it's a pain to repair, or are they just trying to obtain my business? It's a shame this isn't a recall, b/c at 69K miles and a mint condition car, I wouldn't expect this to happen.
