Adjust gear shift advice...... 850 1995

Hi Volvo Friends..

When I thought everything was fine I just noticed the gear shift need to be adjust.... I think is a little bit loose I can move it back and forth on each position... when I move the gear shift to "R" not always the back light go on.... if that happend I have to move the gear shift a little bit back and forth until I got the perfect position...(the car drive back even the lights are not on).. If I am driving on "D" and move a little bit the gear forward the car shake like it is trying to engage....
Another thing is I checked the ECU codes and I got A1=124 I wonder if this problem could produce that error.... instead of problems with the Mode botton

I want to check this weekend the gear shift mechanism from the center console
until the PNP switch ... (gear switch, gear cable,...)

Any advice where and what to check will be really appreciate....
