tell me about s40's S40-V40

I have an '89 240 and a '97 850 and love them both. I'm taking a friend to look at used s40's. Is there anything in particular to look for in this model? I'm not very familiar with it. Are most of you happy with the S40 or should we look at older S70's? The dealer has several S40's (2000 and 2001 models) in the $16k range. Is that a good price?
