How do I test a Fuel Sending Unit ? 850 1996

You would need to use an ohm meter and check its resistance, then check your results with the manuals specs. The guage is tested by temporarily grounding the right wire going from the sender to it.
You would need an OEM electrical manual for those specs, I don't have one handy. If a dealer's not too far from you, you might be better off by paying them the hour's labor to properly diagnose it rather that guess. You can also order yourself a manual by calling 800-25-volvo if you'ld rather do that.
