Brrrrrrr! Automatic Climate Control Out Of Control? V70-XC70 1998

My '98 V70AWD had the exact same symptoms last year. In addition I could hear the stepping motor making noises via the center vents. When the fault code finally blinked in the ECC lights, I brought it to the dealer and had a stepping motor for the damper replaced, about a $200 job, covered by my extended warranty sold via warrantygold.com.
