855 tailgate strut removal/replacement 850

Did search, but need a little more info on this procedure.

I got a pair of new struts from IPD, and am trying to remove the old ones.
I got the trim panel taken out, and can clearly see both ends of the old strut.

How do I remove the front-side of the strut end? It doesn't look like I can use
flat/philips/torx screw drivers. Pliers, as volvospeed suggests for sedan strut removal?

Also, how do I take out the rear end? For sedans, it says push it up. Is it same
direction for wagons, too?

Thanks.
