stupid question 850 1995

854 is an 800 series, 5 cylinder engine with 4 doors. An 850 sedan.
855 is an 800 series, 5 cylinder engine with 5 doors. An 850 wagon.


For many years volvo used this nomenclature (142, 144, 162, 164), etc.
It carries on since it is an easy way to designate your model.

My Volvo dealer still uses 854 and 855 on service paper work.
