Rusted brakes - calipers, too?

I left a 940 parked for about a couple of weeks, and I think the brakes are rusted. When I brake, I feel the brakes pulsating, AND when I take foot off the brakes, I can still feel/hear the rhythmic grinding. I called my indy mechanic, and he says it'd be ok after driving it a couple of days to get the rust off.

My question is, what are the symptoms if the caliper is rusted/seized, too? Is it safe to drive it this way, as the mechanic suggested, till the rust is gone?

I had a similar pulsating on another car, and when I took it to a mechanic, I was told that calipers needed to be replaced/fixed, in addition to rotors and pad, due to rust.

TIA.
