HELP ! 'engine system service required' in my message center keeps popping up

Greetings my fellow bricksters: I have a 2002 V70 2.4 N/A that currently has 9,756 miles on it and I keep getting the following message in my message center:
"ENGINE SYSTEM SERVICE REQUIRED" I originally thought that it was the oil change reminder, so I did the old key to positon I ,hold down trip meter click to pos. II etc.... and I sucessfully reset the message center by folowing that procedure but, the message keeps coming back the very next day. I also have an amber ! (exclamation point)in the amber triangle illuminated. no other lights are on.

the car seems to be running fine, I do my own oil changes and I have 3000 miles on this oil so far, I change the oil every 5000 miles. any ideas of what is going on here before I have to take it to the dealer just so they can clean out my wallet !!!
I really appreciate any input ! (any Volvo techs out there ?)
