'Check Engine' on at 100k 850 1994

My 'check engine' (NOT 'service' light) just 500 miles short of 100k. Checked oil, coolant and belts and all were ok. It stayed on for about 24 hours then cut off. Is this something that is programmed to pop up at 100k to get you to go to the dealer? or should i get the codes run???? I have also had the tach to periodically not work - usually for the duration of a drive, then it will work again..... guess i ought to have it checked out. Thanks! you can contact me direct at red_ford64@hotmail.com
