Hello Everyone,
I'm new to the board and also new to FWD Volvos. I just bought a 93 Volvo 850 5 speed. I have no service history on the car. The car has 164,000 miles with the orginal clutch. My problem just started last week. When I started the car on a cold night. The clutch got stuck and so I pull it up with my hand. When trying to put the car into reverse the shifter would not go into any gear at all. There was no grinding sound, when trying to put the shifter into gear. Finally with putting all my weight into it. The car went into reverse and it was hard putting it in first gear. But with the engine warming up the shifter did its job and was moving from gear to gear without problems. The clutch now get stuck every morning and the shifter is hard to move.
1. But with the engine off and the clutch pedal in I can freely move the shifter to anygear. But as soon as I start the car the problem occurs. I just found a new volvo tech in my area and told him the problem. He thinks I need a new clutch. The cost of the job is $800.00
2. Does anyone think it could be the wrong kind of gear oil in the gearbox? But But that doesn't answer about the clutch getting stuck when driving then pops out by itself.
I need help guys. Thanks.
Mark
