Check Engine Light S40-V40 2000

Did the check light occur just after you put in the regular gas? If so, could have been a reaction to that. I have heard that Autozone can scan for an OBD-2 diagnostic code. Some of the codes are proprietary to Volvo (4-digit codes they will not be able to identify) but most codes are readable.

Regular gas won't hurt the engine. Over a few miles the control system adjusts timing to adapt to the lower octane. During the adjustment period the OBD system would have noted something not quite right. Performance and gas mileage are said to be lower when using less than 92 octane. How was your performance with the mid-grade and now with regular?
