Syntetic ATF update - Castrol IS better! 850 1995

After I bought my '95 850 GLT almost 4 years ago, I noted that ATF smelled REALLY bad - like it was burnt. Worse, even that the tranny did shift well, there was little "bang" between 1st and 2nd gears. I first drained the tranny fluid through the transmission's plug 3 or 4 times, which did not change the smell, and shift from 1st to 2nd remained the same.

About 1.5 y. ago I flushed tranny w/ regular ATF (Castrol), and about 6 months later flushed again w/ Mobil Syntetic ATF. THe smell improved, but I did not notice big difference in shifting then - tranny did seem to shift just slightly easier, which I thought was my imagination.

Today, I flushed it w/ Castrol Syntetic ($6.00 per bottle at R&S Straus), and there is a big difference - trnny shifts smoother now (does not shifts like new though).

Anyone has similar experience w/ Mobil vs. Castrol or it's just me?
