Gas Tank Filler Door Latch sticking....

I think this is a common problem, but now it's happened to me. Lately, I 've been having to pull the manual cable inside the trunk to release the filler door. After doing this, the mechanism seems to work fine for awhile, but usually sticks when I fill up again several days/weeks later. Can the system be lubricated? Where? Is there another easy fix?
