flashing Check Engine Light in SPORT mode? 850

I have a 97 GLT LPT with a check engine light on, the code is for a vacume leak that i have not yet tracked down. anyway last night on the highway at about 70 mph with the tranny in sport mode i floored it and instead of accellerating nothing happened and the check engine light that was already on flashed about 3 times and then stayed on steady again and then the car accellerated. in Economy mode the car runs great, but in sport mode i get erractic shifting problems when i drive hard but only in sport mode in ecom it runs and shifts great no matter how hard or easy i drive the car.

could this be a problem with the transmission ECU? or just a related problem to the vacume leak code that i get?

thanks in advance for any insight.

i will only use economy mode untill i figure this one out.
