Tranny flush on 850 850 1996

Just bought a '96 850 GLT, moving up from an '87 240 wagon. Want to flush the tranny. what's the best way? Same as I did with 240? Should I go with synthetic fluid? Will also be changing the oil/filter. Synthetic oil? Any other things I should change / check while I'm at it? With the front wheel drive it looks like working on my new brick will be more difficult to do. At least more crowded under the hood.

Thanks for the help,
John
