Brighter Headlamp Bulbs

The amount of brightness/whiteness depends on your lamp configuration.

If you have H4 or H7, you can get 50% more output (and whiter color temperature from Philips VisionPlus (http://www.autolamps-online.com) or Hella LightPower (Susquehanna Motorsports, http://www.rallylights.com/hella/xenon_bulbs.asp). I've used both, and they're equal in output and color temperature.

If you have 9004 or 9006, then you're limited to 30% higher output because the lamps have plastic bases and won't tolerate the heat. Philips Premium, Philips BlueVision, and Sylvania SilverStar are good options there. The last two have a small amount of blue filtering to whiten the light (blue filter removes yellow).

(PIAA's are also available, but nobody I know who's owned them thinks they're worth the money, and they never buy a second set. Prices are finally coming down on PIAA's though, probably because of competition from Philips, Hella and Osram Sylvania. )

Most importantly - do you have E-code lenses? (Look at the lens glass, if there's an E or E2 in a circle, you're already equipped with E-codes.) These get more light down on the road and you'll get full benefit from better lamps with these lenses. Otherwise, the fuzzy, indistinct pattern of DOT lenses will waste a lot of the new light, shining it into the trees and God knows where else.

Finally - do not put in over-watt lights. You'll only melt connectors and yellow the reflectors, as overwatt lights will produce far more additional heat but not much in the way of additional light.
