overheating 850

My car started to overheat on my way home.
I believe it is the thermastat stuck closed.
My guage was consistantly at the halfway until today.
The only way I made it home was by blasting the heat which was extremely hot.
I checked when I got home that the rad fan was going and it was. I checked the reserve tank and it was at its mark.

Is it common for the thermastat to just get stuck closed?
Or could it be something else?
