Fans runs after engine shutdown V70-XC70 1998

For the first time in 5 years, we're noticing the cooling fan (I guess) running for several minutes after shutting the engine and leaving the car. Is this normal?

Notes: 57,000 miles. The weather just turned very cold. Just had first service done by a non-dealer. New front brakepads and rotors, new front tires, and replaced the serpentine (accessory) belt. Plus changed transmission fluid, oil, plugs, air filter and cabin filter. (He claimed the filters he replaced were exceedingly dirty.) It also seems like the heat isn't blasting out the side vents like it used to, but that could be my imagination.

Any ideas? Thanks.
