PNP? Trans? Both? 850 1995

Thanks Erwin! Just read your reply. Here's more of my sad story.

I've got a '95 850 Turbo. For several months, it's been sluggish when starting to drive in the morning. Now especially in the cold. It feels like it's stuck in low gear and won't go over 10 mph. Then after warming up (or putting it in then out of 3rd while driving) it takes off. It drives fine after it warms up.

So yesterday I tried the advice of moving the shifter back and forth 20 times. Now it won't start. At least it started before I did the 20 shifter moves. Now it won't start. AAAAAAH!

Today I tried to jump start it, start it in neutral. Some times it works when I take it just out of park. Today, nothing.

I was hoping it was the PNP and not the transmission.
My mechanic told me it was the trans and now after yesterday he says it's both.
PNP switch? Transmission? Both? Other?

How much should it cost? Should I try to repair anything myself?
