Corner lifting points for V70? V70-XC70

Elissa, I lift my '99 V70 awd with my floor jack with a piece of 1/2" plywood on top of the jack saddle. It's a scrap piece about 7-8" sq. After using it a couple of times the 4 bumps on the saddle will stick into the plywood and it will then stay in place better. As you know the Sub-frame is kind of a big square box. In each corner is a large circular area with the bolt in the center which holds the sub-frame to the car. I put the F.J. with plywood in the center of the front cross member. Make sure to block the rear tires with wooden blocks and set the hand brake. This should be done on a smooth floor so that the jack can slowly roll backwards, so the car will not slip off the jack.
Depending on how high and what I need to access I will either put two axle stands on the left and rt. of the floor jack, and remove the jack, with the curved part of the axle stand under the crossmember such that the car can't go forward or backward while on the stand. Or if I need complete access under the front, then I will put the J.S's under the rear two sub-frame bolt heads. Again place them such that they can't slip out from their position. I have also moved them inwards toward each other, under the crossmember itself that connects the left and rt. sides of the sub-frame.
If I am jacking the rear of the car, I put the saddle with plywood rt. under the differential itself. Then I look for any rigid member, frame member preferably, but DO NOT put the stands under the axles if AWD or gas tank etc.
If I can leave the jack supporting the car also, I will let it down enough to "load the stands" then lock the jack in that position. Be careful ! Tom
