Bad Mechanic 850 1993


I was driving down the road the other day on the way to the mall to do some christmas shopping that I had put off for sometime. On the street before the mall I heard this "clunk, clunk, clunk" noise coming from the drivers side front tire; shortly after hearing that I began to feel some vibration and a hint of distraction coming from the steering wheel. My mechanics shop was some 30 miles away, but luckly for me I was by the dealership that sold me the car. So, I turned into the dealership and told them of the problem, they said they would be able to check it first thing in the morning since they were already over scheduled for that day. The servicing dealer was nice enough to give me a ride home, and the next morning I recieved a call. The problem was that the sway bar had come unbolted, and that it would need to be reattached. I didn't think that I was getting swindled giving the symptoms and that they are a very reputable dealer, but I just had the struts, bushings, and pretty much everything in the front end replaced by my independent who is a Volvo technician. Is not attaching the sway bar correctly an easy-to-make mistake? I'm not really sure what a sway bar is, or what it does for that matter, but since its improper installment was interfering with my steering I assume that it is of some importance. What do you think, confront the mechanic about his slovenly work; or let it go and continue business with the guy, because its not a big deal? Thanks for your input.
