In my area of the country, the good ones stay at good dealerships. One's only a true Volvo master tech by definition IF they're still employed at a dealership and continuously updated on the most recent technology otherwise that title is lost the following year. Volvo doesn't have more than 1 patch for being a " Volvo master tech" BUT ASE does and now, all Volvo master techs must also be ASE master techs too. The ASE patches are what I call "baffling people with BS" IMO. Being an ASE master tech myself, I can say that passing those ASE tests really wasn't too hard and you'll see guys with those patches at local service stations everywhere.
What makes a good dealership is good techs with good management, good service writers but being a dealer tech for almost 23 yrs now, I know that seemingly bad dealerships exist too.
These days, Volvo grades and rewards dealerships for CSI so all dealerships have to try pretty hard to make the mark or they're punished financially.
My point was that just because you've apparently had previous bad dealer experiences doesn't mean that you should bash all dealer people here and generalize. Those like myself (and others) choose to post here for FREE trying to help a few people so I hardly think negative opinions need to be tossed out. I could toss out my "indy stories" too but I won't. I've also worked for indy's years ago so I've seen that side too.
