Oil on back of engine/ 'weeping hose'? non turbo S70 1998

First off.. the manual is on order! ;-)
But in the meantime there is a hard plastic hose that goes from
the top of the engine to the back and about halfway down the engine it
is connected. To what.. I am not sure. But at this connection it is "wet".
I wiped it off and it is wet again so I am pretty sure this is the source
of the oil on the back of the engine (down low not on top).. Would this be
the flame guard? Kinda looks like the same arrangement that is on my 84 DL
where the flame guard is.. Can I just pop this hose pull the "filter" and
clean it out like on a 200 series?
Obviously I havent put much time in digging around there... plan to this weekend.
The oil loss is not noticible on the dipstick ... just kind of making a mess
of things.. A little goes a long way.

TIA
