Brierto,

You should be able to start out in first gear without raising the RPMs more than a couple hundred RPMs. If you cannot, there is something wrong with your car, or, your clutch engagement technique.

The accelerator should not be hard to push.

Once the clutch is engaged and the car is moving, things do happen very slowly on a N/A 850 (I assume your's is not turbocharged). My 850 wagon has been a dog since the day we picked it up new.
