A Key / Ignition Switch Dilemma V70-XC70 1998

The other night I returned home from travelling on business for the week to have my spouse explain that the key would not turn in the ignition (V70 T5). Upon further discussion, I was given the following facts:

Wednesday was a very rainy day in our area. While picking up a child at school, everyone including my spouse was soaked. The keys may have been wet when the car was started again after retrieving our child, but they drove home and parked the car without incident. The temp. went below freezing that night.

The next morning, the key wouldn't go into the ignition. After a few seconds of "playing", the key finally went in, but would not turn. Thinking that the wheel lock was sticking, the wheel was rocked a bit with no effect on the ignition. The car was left for me to "fix".

I have tried rocking the wheel hard, I've made sure the shiftlock override was "up", confirmed the shifter was in park, shaken the cars and the tires to try and release any potential steering wheel lock, heated the interior of the car to make sure it wasn't frozen (outside temp is around 45 now, so shouldn't be an issue), and checked the fuses. I don't know what else to do, and don't want to face the prospects of having to tow the car to the dealer for what is hopefully just something tempororily stuck. The keys have never been an issue before.

Any thoughts on this are appreciated.

Happy Holidays!
