Flashing lights 850 1996

A question for the experts!
The last few times on starting my '96 850 turbo, the two red lights, one on the climate control recirc., and the other, the "Off" light for the a/c both start flshing in unison. I can stop the flashing by movong one of the temerature controls (it has the two graduated temperature controls, one for driver, and one for the passenger). This, unless I have missed something in the owners manual is not normal.
Can anyone explain, this? Please don't let it be something expensive!! (I once had a burnt out a/c switch relay on a Mazda, which wouldn't let me switch off the a/c, and this $7 relay burnt out a $400 computer!!)
Thanks in advance,
The Bear
