Non-brake-related squeal? 850 1997

My wife was driving our 850 this afternoon, and we suddenly noticed that there was a squeal coming from the outside even though there was no foot on the brake at the time. She made a left at the next intersection.....we heard the squeal again.....pulled into a parking lot and I got out and ran alongside the car as my wife drove through the lot. The squeal was continuous-sounding, not the "squeak-squeak-squeak-squeak" sound that I've heard from bad brakes before. We parked, took care of some business in the library, then came out again to the car. When we drove away, there was no squeal, nor has there been one subsequently.

Anyone have an idea what this might have been?
