If your fluid hasn't been done for a while, probably good to do a complete flush.
If you use non-synthetic, change at least what is in the pan every 15,000 miles and you should be fine. If you use synthetic ATF (strongly recommended), plan to change what is in the pan every 30-45,000 and you should be fine.
If you go with synthetic, I recommend using one with a Group IV base (PAO)--
AMSOIL or Mobil 1 come to mind.
