850 GLT Alarmed and NOT startable CATCH22` 850

Hi, my (95) 850GLT estate, refuses to acknowledge any signals from the Key Fob, it is alarmed and of course if I open the door with the key the alarm is triggered and I cannot start the damm thing !. I have fitted new batteries to the key fob, this fob make a slight click when a button is pressed (its the version with 2 buttons 1 above the other for lock/unloak and a seperate 'panic' button.

I have a spare key fob but as i had never tried to use it ,gues its never been 'proggrammed into the alarm system', I have the instruction leaflet for this alarm system but the crunch is I need a WORKING 'system' before any other fobs can be progged in, at present in desperation i have disconnected the car battery and will leave it off for 24 hours in the hope the sytem MIGHT reset ??.

My other car (Rover)had a key which can be use under the bonnet to switch off the alarm/immobiliser but i havent heard of this on the Volvo ?. Any suggeestion please ??, its weird that the car may have to be towed to a dealer for such a problem !.

Cheers...
Reg.
