Gear shift intermittently won't come out of park S40-V40

My '03 V40 has an odd quirk. Periodically, after start up, the gear shift won't come out of park. Doesn't happen all the time, but a bit scary if you need to move. Override button works when this happens, and sometimes if you restart, no problem. I spoke to dealer --who had heard of this-- recently, but as yet, neither they nor Volvo (Canada) have a fix.

Any similar experiences out there? Thoughts? Anyone have it fixed? I am on to Volvo to get the skinny as this is a safety issue that needs to be resolved.
