Stop Light Switch: Removal and Refitting
REMOVAL
1. Disconnect the battery negative lead.
(My caution: Before you do this, ensure you have the security code for your sound system)
2. Remove the trim panel under the facia on the driver's side, which is secured by a single screw, and is then pulled out of its locating slots at the top. Disconnect the wiring plug from the footwell light.
3. Depress the brake pedal slightly, then push the stoplight switch towards the pedal to relewase the locking sleeve.
4. Pull the locking sleeve towards the switch plunger as far as it will go.
5. Compress the switch side retaining catches and withdraw the switch from the pedal bracket. Disconnect the wiring connector(s) and remove the switch.
REFITTING
6. Make sure that the switch locking sleeve is fully extended towards the switch plunger.
7. Reconnect the wiring. Then, with the brake pedal depressed, locate the switch on the pedal bracket. Push the switch into the bracket until a click is heard as the retaining catches clip into the bracket.
8. Pull the brake pedal up as far as it will go; this will automatically adjust the switch.
9. Gently rock the switch to ensure that it is securely in place, then reconnect the battery and check the operation of the stop lights.
10. Refit the panels removed for access.
