Battery Saver Door Question ?

Well I gave myself a good scare this morning.
It was feezing out and my driver door would
not shut all the way so stupidly touched the
door lever and flipped it upwards. When I went
to pull the lever in it's original position
it would not go back down causing the door
not to close. It was locked in the up postion.

So I composed myself and took the manual in
the house. I remembered reading about the
battery power saving mode when you want to
keep your doors open for a long period of time
but could never figure out what they meant as
the instructions are worded in a way that does
not make sense. From the instructions I was able
to deduct that if you pull the door handle out,
you then can take a small screwdriver or something
and flip the lever back down and it worked.
This was good news as I was still gun shy from
my driver side window switch braking
[ window down ]in a rain storm 2 months ago.

So my question is : when you want to save the battery
and turn off your interior lights which way do you flip
that lever, up or down ?
