Warning lights but no fault codes 850

I have a 199 850 Turbo wagon. Recently, my dashboard started lighting up with warning lights. The check engine light came on and the mechanic said there was no fault code and, in fact, the computer didn't even read that the check engine light was on. At the same time the CE light came on, my gear box fault light (flashing arrow) came on after I had accidentally hit the winter mode button and then turned it off. The flashing arrow went off, but came back on and went off yet once more.
My indy mechanic thinks it is a circuit board in the computer that is shorting or triggering these warning lights when nothing is wrong with the car. He suggested I take it to a dealer and that others might have had this problem. He said if there is a repair sheet on it from the manufacturer that I might get some "financial relief"--don't ya' love it when you hear that? Anybody ese have this problem?
