Radio removal and code 850 1996

I recently purchased a 96 850 GLT with the premium radio in it. I want to install an aftermarket cd changer and need to know how to get the radio to release. I noticed that on each side of the radio there are small bars that depress and release. They pull out like handles, but that does not seem to releast the radio. Also how do I get a radio code for this car. If I go to volvo and give them the vin will they give it to me.
