OBDII code set after Maintenance 850 1996

I recently bought a 96 850T sedan w/ 83,000 miles on it. Since I don't know how accurate the maint records are, I have begun to do the usual tune-up stuff. Also, the thermostat was not working correctly and the engine never got up to the 3 o'clock position.
I changed the thermostat (with one from the Volvo dealership $$$), changed my oil/filter, flushed the tranny w/ new trany fluid, changed the air filter, and changed my coolant. 1 week after doing that work, the car's check engine light comes on and the code is 0171, which is the running lean code. If the code is reset, after about a week or so, it comes back on. Have I done something to this car? I planned on changing my rotor, distributer, plugs, wires and both belts, but I don't want to do that until I find out what is setting the code. Does anyone have any suggestions.
