Automatic Transmission gears kick while slowing down to a stop 850 1994

I have a '94 850 (122K) and the transmission gears kick as I slow down to a stop. Mainly from 3rd to 2nd & 2nd to 1st. It does not happen all the time but is becoming more frequent. If I move it to N and then back in Drive it usually does not occur again for that trip. I don't know when the previous owner last did a tranny flush, but I'm not sure if that is the main problem. I've driven it for about 3 months without this problem. If I do decide to do the tranny flush, what kind of tranny fluid should I use for a high mileage car like mine, and would you recommend synthetic tranny fluid.

THANKS in advance,

MZ
