Dipstick 'broken' 850 1997

Trying to check my oil this w/e and the top of the dip stick came apart when it was 3/4 way up. Apparently, the (orange)handle came loose from the metal. It now slide back and forth on the top of the "stick". I've reinserted it and put the handle back, but trying to remove is a two step process. Q: should I go for a new one from dealer(or a used one from the junk yard is fine)??? Any idea what one of these puppies may $$.
Also, the reason I was checking my oil level, is the sudden ticking in the engine that started this w/e. The temps. were in the 28-35F range and the ticking would come and go. Any clues why???? The oil level was okay too(as expected since I just changed it in Nov.) Thanks all, BD
