Bleeding Brakes with pressure bleeder - Does everyone use hose clamp? 850 1997

I read somewhere (Bay 13?) that a hose clamp (plastic pliers) is needed to prevent dirty fluid entering the ABS. Is that really true? I don't see why it is necessary if the pressure is on and the bleeder valve is open (or closed).
