'97 855 AWD 5-speed. Any good??? V70-XC70

Hey guys, I posted this on the 850 forum, but I thought I'd post it here too in case you guys had any input........

My mom is sort of looking for a new car. She currently drives a '97 Mazda MPV 4WD 'All-Sport' that has over 170K km (106K mi) on it. Tonight, dad and I were driving around in my 745T and we found a '97 855 AWD for sale and to my surprise it was a 5-speed manual. It has just over 91K km (57K mi) on it and at first glance seems to be in nice shape. I've been reading old posts and I'm very concerned about the problem with the differental in that generation AWD system. It seems as though they are extreemly sensitive to tire diameter diferences. Is this a big concern? How is this car over all? Are they nothing but problems? Expensive to fix? Can the AWD system be upgraded to the newer AWD system if the original one failed? Can the AWD be deactivated and the car used as a FWD if the AWD failed and was too expensive to fix? Is the manual in this car a good tranny? I don't know a whole lot about these cars and I don't believe my Volvo mechanic does either (because they are somewhat rare), so any help/advise would be greatly appreciated. I tried to get my mom to try out a '98 V90 (lovely car) that I found for sale, but she won't have anything to do with it because it's not AWD. We are looking for a fairly long term car, so it would have to be good for ~250K km (150K mi+) and a least 5+ years. Thanks in advance for any help!
