With a clunking from the transmission or motor mounts I would have a pre-purchase inspection done by a good indy Volvo shop. One bad motor mount can lead to wear in the other mounts over time. As for clunking my A/T did so between 3rd and 4th but it was resolved by a transmission flush. My Car did not get any clunking D to R or P to R prior to the trans flush. It is said often on this board and I sure hope it’s true that 1997 850s are the best year for the series.
