'03 V40, Auto/Trans. fluid S40-V40

One of the things I like to do to all of my vehicles is change out the precious fluids, after the breakin, and install synthetics.

I have two questions:

First.......what have most owners experienced in the way of breakin....what mileage seems to be the norm for when everything is well seated and the best mpg appears?

Second......the dealer tells me to leave the automatic transmission fluid alone. That Volvo's is the best...period...end of statement! In fact they tell me Volvo charges about $14 per quart. That seems high considering AMCO's top quality isn't that high. What gives....anyone have any insight on this?
